lose 43 pounds (read all 3 entries…)
Plus one 2 years ago

Since my last post, not only have I not managed to lose any weight, but actually have gained one pound :( It’s really not that bad considering I have sometimes not eaten adequate portions —like ordering a bucket of popcorn at the theater—shared, but we still got a refill :P— or helping myself to the snacks mother has around. I guess what’s kept me from not gaining even more is the moderate exercise I do everyday.

Though I have fully stopped being tempted by mother’s nuts and ice cream and more, this has given me the opportunity to observe and be aware of the eatings habits I unfortunately inherited. As I’m currently reading French Women Don’t Get Fat, I am working hard on changing my habits. I had started doing so, but it’s just too easy to fall and get back into old habits, especially with temptations around.

This “plus one pound” is just an alarm to get back on track by eating right and keep exercising.

kellgo sick today..... ugh :(

how are you enjoying the book?

I purchased the same book around a year ago and still haven’t gotten around to reading it. Do you find it helpful at all? The cover is attractive, now all I need to do is open it and start reading!

Very much enjoying the book

It’s a very easy read but harder to follow the suggestions. It’s really not a diet book but more of a lifestyle change, more of changing your eating habits. It is quite interesting to see the way we’ve learned to eat and see it from a totally different perspective.

I’ve adopted the suggestions I’ve read so far —with the recurrent drop :S And it’s because old habits die hard, particularly bad ones! But I’m working on it :) If you’d like, I’ll send you an invite.

One pound's not bad

It’s good it got your attention, though. I’ve gained several, and I don’t feel like it’s gotten my attention. Thank goodness I’m still going to Curves. I’m also jumping rope every morning. But I’ve been so bad with the food. Two pieces of cake today. There’s no excuse for that!

I’m curious about that book, too.

Attention

OK, team! Back on track! Attention!! ;)

I hear you about the two pieces of cake… been there… actually, a bit ago, a friend brought cupcakes (the kind you get at the grocery store’s bakery) as a birthday “cake” for another friend. Well, Twinkies are better and moister than those cupcakes. Nonetheless, I helped myself to TWO!! Ugh! They weren’t even that good and certainly not worth the calories.

That is exactly what the book is about. To eat for pleasure but also to eat with your mind. To watch your portions, to savor that one square of high-quality dark chocolate…

As I was telling Kellgo (above), we’ve grown up with all these bad eating habits. The book tells us that we’ve just lost the pleasure of a good prepared meal, and instead we just “fill the tank” (my words —the author is a lot more eloquent). She makes many observations about our bad habits and compares them to the French women habits and, if you follow them, you’re bound to lose weight.

I don’t know the program you follow at Curves, but this reading could be a good supplement :)

Curves is for exercise

although they have a diet program, too. I don’t follow the diet program because I found a different one I like. I don’t stick to it all the time, but I like it when I have self-discipline!

I adopted the other goal to read french women book. I won’t get it until it comes out in paperback after Christmas, though. It really does sound like it will be a good supplement to Curves.

I wish that at work, people wouldn’t constantly bring food and try to make me eat it. I don’t blame them for my problem, but I do wish they’d respect that I’m trying to lose weight by, at least, stopping telling me it’s there. Even when I say, “No thanks, I’m on a diet,” they still try to talk me into eating something. “We have veggies,” they’ll say. Yeah… like I’m going to walk up to a table full of cake, brownies, pesto and crackers, and pigs-in-a-blanket and pick up a celery stick. Just let me sit in my corner and work, please.

Library

So you don’t buy the book if you don’t like it or wait till Christmas, I suggest you try getting it at your local library—that’s where i got mine! I’m liking it, so I think I’ll eventually buy it, but it’s good to start with the library if you’d like.

I hate it when people make you eat. It always reminds me of the Italian phrase “Mangia, mangia!” (Eat, eat!). Particularly in the situation you described, the book recommends you to not eat while standing and to make wise choices (ie, pick one or two of the foods you enjoy the most and eat a little of it and savor it slowly). he book states that these little changes in habits make a huge difference. But it’s difficult, I know, I’m having a hard time myself :S But that’s why we’re in a team to encourage each other. I know it’ll take us time, but we’ll accomplish it :)

Great idea!

I don’t know why I never think of the library for books. I get CDs there all the time, but rarely books. Duh.

I put a copy on hold, so I can pick it up early next week. :)

I’m glad you’re on the goal with me. I had a feeling I’d stall right here at the end. This week has been particularly awful… no willpower at all. A combination of higher than usual work stress and PMS, I think.

LunaNueva has gotten 3 cheers on this entry.
