This is one of my favourites so far, which doesn’t say a lot, as I’ve loved every Jet Li film I’ve seen to date! :) I like the way we see two sides to him – his character evolves from an egotistical fighter who is only interested in the fight for the status it earns him to a mellow, peaceful and reserved martial artist, who is respectful and has etched upon him the results of some harsh life lessons dealt. The consequences arising from his ego were not trivial and this is reflected in his drastically altered personality thereafter.

It’s a beautiful film with a lot of depth. It is also a sad film, but it doesn’t wallow in that – it brings a seed of hope that it will be different in future. Be prepared to shed a few tears! :)
