File papers that need filing, throw away others (read all 2 entries…)
One box... 1 year ago

...of papers is ready to be recycled. I hadn’t planned to sort through papers this morning, but when our home alarm started beeping with an error code at 1:30AM and required the alarm to be reset every 30 minutes, I was wide awake and decided to look through unsorted papers for the alarm manual and contact information and just assumed the papers had not been filed. My husband found the needed manual in the filing cabinet right away, but I continued to sort papers while he was getting help with the alarm.

Guess I need to spend a little time each week sorting and filing papers until everything has been sorted.

Comments:

I have problems throwing out my kids homework from even 2 years ago.

Doing this does feel really good. I got on a filing jag this Monday. Afterwards, I felt like a new person.
I hate spending time looking for something that could have been easily filed away. I used to be more of a hoarder, but when my dad passed away and my sister and I had to go through his things (he kept every check ever written, every letter or card ever sent to him EVER!), it cleared me of this habit. Guess where I got it from!
I started getting into the habit of filing bill statements and receipts every month. I find that by filing in a plastic accordion style file, and keeping it in a handy place, I get the job done, thus making it easy to prepare for tax season.

Keep with your goal, think of little incentives and devices, etc. to make the task easier, and you’ll get it done.

Wow! I can’t even imagine how much paperwork your dad had in his house or how long it must have taken to go through all of it!

I still have several boxes of old papers that are stored in the corner of an seldom used room upstairs. I think it will be a good project to do in the fall when that part of the house is cooler.

Sandi has gotten 2 cheers on this entry.
