food poisoning
Meatloaf

The first case I ever remember was meatloaf my mom made. To this day, it’s not among the foods I really care all that much for.

I was sicker than a dog for a couple days. It was a horrible feeling.

Are you sure this was "worth doing?"

I have a similar aversion to ham loaf, but it wasn’t from food poisoning. My brother and I were staying at my grandmother’s house when I was about 8 years old. In the afternoon, Grandma asked us whether we wanted peanut butter cookies or brownies, and we said “both!” So, she made both, and we stuffed ourselves full of fresh-from-the-oven cookies. (We were very spoiled grandchildren.) Then, after eating ham loaf for dinner, we both got sick. Do you think we swore off peanut butter cookies or brownies? No way, even though we knew that was what made us ill. But to this day, the smell of ham makes me queasy.

I have to admit, I would say that stuffing myself with both peanut butter cookies and brownies was “worth doing” in spite of getting sick.

It's not worth it to me today...

to stuff my face full of PB cookies and brownies, but remembering back, I think my 8-yr-old self would have thought it was worth it. more LOL.
