bake something for a bake sale (read all 2 entries…)
So I've got all the ingredients

to make 2 cherry pies. Not for a bake sale, but because I’m not a huge baker, I thought I would try my hand prior to any bake-sale needs that might pop up.

I want to make the pies for my neighbors. One neighbor is sooo sweet and ensure’s my trash is out on time, that my lawn is mowed and that my dog gets back in the gate when he sneaks out. The other neighbor’s mother is in the hospital and they are so nice.

So I went to the store, bought the crusts (I’m not a make-your-own-crust kinda girl) and cherries. Now I’m going through all the recipes I can find, so I can make a super delicious pie. All I’m seeing is recipes with those ingredients.

I’m thinking – is that it? Sounds kinda bland, boring, unnecessary. Why don’t I just go to McD’s and get some cherry pies there?

Does anyone have any modifications to a cherry pie that will make it a bit more, ohh, I don’t know… more stylish? I know I’m supposed to have a binder (cream of something which I bought) and an egg wash on top to get the crust golden… but I need a bit more than this.

Thank you :o)

Comments:

I'm not yet the cook I want to be,

but I think everything tastes mo better with butter. shrimp and grits.

And deep fried.

Maybe just some apple slices.

This sounds great

I’m about to throw the pies in the oven and have made it just as you suggested.

It doesn’t smell as good as I anticipated, but, I’m sure after it’s all cooked, it’ll be great.

The cherries I mixed with butter, deep fried shrimp, grits and apples.

Ohh boy, I can’t wait!!!

;o)

They are baked and look delicious!

Thank you EDT & BW for your suggestions.

I was out of Almond Extract, but did add lemon juice and butter.

Did add a pretty lattice crust and we made these cute little cherries out of the extra dough and put them on top. They look so cute all browned and golden :o)

Don’t really know how they will taste, hopefully my receivers will be honest (or kind).

If I can figure out how to download pics off my phone I’ll add them.

Way simple (the lattice and dough cherries took the longest), but the cherubs and I had a wonderful time.
