I graduate in May, and I am trying to decide between the Peace Corps and one of the may alternative programs out there. Anybody have advice?
Comments:
If you’re interested in the Peace Corps, you’ll need to start filling out paperwork early. I’m assuming you’re graduating from university as you can’t join the Peace Corps straight out of high school. I’m a current volunteer, so if you need any help, let me know.
Thanks for the advice. How do you like your volunteering so far?
I saw the med eval. sheet for peace corps, and I do not think I will be able to be accepted because of my health. Applying would be such a process only to be rejected at the end. This is a big disappointment but I’m looking into other things.
Don’t count yourself out. I have asthma and had cervical cancer right after university and still managed to get medically cleared. My site-mate also has asthma and had to admit to going to a psychiatrist for a while when he didn’t get along with some of his classmates. Since Romania has the best medical team as far as Peace Corps is concerned, I guess that’s probably part of the reason why I’m here. Just don’t count yourself out thinking the medical portion is gonna kick you.
My experience so far has been pretty good. I have tons of stories and photos posted on my blog if you’re really interested. mollypeugh.blogspot.com
Good luck with everything.
