It could be that the best way to approach new painting is to move in an entirely different direction. That’s why I’m leaning toward performance art and soft sculpture as ways to ease into getting involved with newer concepts.
I do like the California lowbrow movement, but there aren’t many new adherents here. There are many followers of the trail-blazers, and it’s hard to take sometimes. (Not that everyone can pioneer an art movement, but if there’s obvious derivation, at least there should be some acknowledgment of influence, and an attempt to build on or expand upon the origin.)
