write a book with reformed emphasis
Untitled

Well, it looks like I’m the only one who wants to do this on 43things. How about you?

shouldn't we live our lives with a reformed emphasis?

The puritains came to the United States to live a life with emphasis on glorifying God in all that they did, be it live day to day or to develop a system of Government which took the emphasis off man, and put it in the hands of God. I cheer your desire to write a book with a reformed emphasis, since sorry to say many books (even Christian books) tend to have a self centered emphasis. What type of book do you plan to write?

What About Allergorical Fiction?

We need someone to carry the torch of John Bunyan. I’m thinking modern stories in a roughly similar genre to Holy War or Pilgrim’s Progress.

Yes, it could be fiction…we need some more good fiction. All the good authors are dead.

There are some good living authors. But I find a pattern—all good authors are either dead or will die soon enough.

Interestingly enough, many an author, theologian, teacher, artist, missionary, revolutionary, inventor, scientist, hero, etc. never really got any appreciation until after they died. Either nobody knew about them while they were alive, or everyone knew about them but criticized their ideas.

But, I still agree with your general idea. They don’t make authors out of the same material that they used to. We settle for straw too easily when there is real gold out there.

Well, I guess you’re right. There are some good non-fictional writers I can think of; Sproul (mostly Sr.), Piper, Grudem, MaHaney, Harris, Julian, etc. However, it’s hard to find good fiction. We do settle for too little. I guess it’s just our cup o’ mud pies, when there is a whole paradise out there prepared just for us.

Indeed. Might I add: White, Guiness, Wilson, and Bridges.

What have you read by Julian? I’ve read one of his books and wasn’t overly impressed. But that is just a first impression, I guess.

(Actually, it was a book Julian co-authored)

Start it NOW and do it. And get it published! And (IMO) keep it simple – the fundamentals – reformed boot camp. Back to basics. This is desperately needed, more than fiction. We live in a dumbed down world, and reformed theology needs to be re-taught at a very basic level, from scratch. Along with basic apologetics. Go for it!
