I love windmills—not the models of old Dutch ones but the real-life functioning ones, be they old-timey midwestern ones, restored European ones, or practical energy-efficient modern ones.
I would say that they’re picturesque, but that’s much more touristy than what I really mean—something about seeing a windmill is kind of inspiring. They’re so purposeful.
I really developed this feeling while visiting Germany, but since then we’ve had windmills installed on a ridge near my hometown. It’s very reassuring, having them there. Calming, even.
So, in short… it’s my dream to own a windmill someday, directly or indirectly. I want to be able to walk right up to it, but even if I can’t, I think that feeling would be beautifully satisfying.
