decide what the hell I would like to do with the rest of my life (read all 8 entries…)

Worth doing!

Stressing out  — 10 months ago

Ok, so I still don’t know what I want to do with the rest of my life, but I’m trying to start making plans for the upcoming year. There are three things I want to do: Travel, write, and gain valuble work experience somewhere. Teaching English overseas seems like a really good option right now, but I’m also really enjoying this writing class I’m taking. I could do an 8 month program starting in January that would give me the skills I need to work in the areas I want to. Teaching English overseas would be an incredible experience, but the more I think about it, I’m not sure that teaching is what I want to do.
sigh One of these days I’ll figure it all out.

Comments:

Picasso's Muse is going to be offered a job in August!

I always wished I’d taught English in Japan. I was a trained teacher so I could have done it. If you get the chance to teach overseas I’d grab it. And there’s your writing material right there!!

be careful

Teaching in Japan or elsewhere is an unbelievable experience. But remember, you are still stuck with YOU. I mean, soon, you’ll get accustomed to where you are living and you must deal with the same questions you’ve always had. So don’t expect it to solve anything. It is a step on a path that may lead you through some interesting terrain. It is a part of life. For me, well, I only planned to stay in Japan for a year or so, but I fell in love with Japan and have stayed for 20 years. Now I can’t go back to the States. I’ve tried, but it seems so foreign to me. I prefer it here. Still, I miss my family tons and often wonder if I made the right choice. 20 years flew by in an instant!

twistedwires is home at last

I've considered that option

After I get my English degree.

Here’s a site with many writer’s testimonies. http://www.bigdaikon.com/mystory.shtml

Thanks for the link, I’ll definately check it out.

Thanks

Thank you so much for the advice. It’s good to talk to people who have been there. I hear that story so many times – people go and fall in love with the culture and years go past. If I go I only plan to stay for a year max, but who knows what will happen.
Right now I’m just craving new and different experiences. I got the travel bug after this summer and I want to see as much of the world as I can.
