take guitar lessons (read all 3 entries…)
Loving the guitar 1 year ago

Tonight I rocked out (in my head) while playing Three Little Birds, Wild Thing and Eleanor Rigby. Well actually I didn’t really rock out with the last song – more like a melancholy sort of sway. I’m really enjoying these lessons. I’m going to miss next week though because I’m going to a concert but I have checked with the tutor and the next note is G. I already know G! But we picked up so many handy little tips like how to play the notes in the start of Three Little Birds so I hope I don’t miss too much. I have dents in my fingers which will ease as they get tougher. Not too big a sacrifice.

littleruby is smiling :)

nice!

my (old) flatmate is in a band and he used to get really calloused fingers from playing!

that was from years of playing tho!

I’m so happy that you went out and started lessons!

Hey, wow!

When Ira gets back he is gonna be so impressed with you! :)

I tried

to play She Wore Orange today. But there’s clearly some chords I still need to learn! I wish Ira would hurry up and come back so he can tell me the chords:)

She Wore Orange

Yeah, you gotta play that! Want me to get the chords for you? I just made him some sweet stuff to send in the mail, so he should be feeling all buttered up soon. :)

Yes please!

That would be fantastic! I think there’s a C and an A7 in there. How wrong am I??

PS

Can you tell Ira to join Facebook so I can poke him, write on his wall and send him a hatching gift. I miss that crazy cat.

Oh, he sent them yesterday so I'd better post them!

Message to PM from Ira:

C E7A7 A7
Ab7 G7
C G7C E7A7 A7
Ab7 G7
C GC GC G
Cadd6/Cadd13

That’s as best as I can make it out! Yeah I know, it’s my own song. :) If I were organised, I’d have it written down. If I were a better musician, I’d be more confident about identifying chords by ear. Anyway, this is what I can make out. Should be if not absolutely accurate, close enough :)

Last chord I think is Cadd6/Cadd13 (not sure what it should be called.) I remember playing it on the 8th fret – I think 8 10 10 9 10 X. It’s not an easy chord to play – at the time I remember struggling with it a bit – probably played it with ring finger played the 4th and 5th string. Which is awkward – but doable :) You can also use the thumb to cover the 6th string. Or play it X35555, but I don’t think it sounds quite the same :)

Take care PM – when I come back we’ll co-write some more! :)

hey PM

I think 43T messed the formatting up a little. I have no idea whether that matters but I’ll send it to your e-mail address, ok? Rock on! Oh, and Ira also said to tell you he wants to hear you play and sing the song! “Our song,” he said. :)

Oh. My. God

Ab7????
Cadd???
I’m feeling suitably overwhelmed!!

I'm his personal assistant now :D

He said “some of the 7th chords may not be 7ths – my ears are still not very good with them. The Ab7 is probably just Ab, and in a couple of places the G7 may just be G. Do what sounds right to you. Let me know if you need anything clarified – and sorry about the confusion and constant revision! I’m still learning too :)”

Good luck! And hey, you’ve already made it a hell of a lot farther than I did! That’s me speaking, by the way – Cyn :)

Hmmmm

Hang on, he’s the one who’s meant to be getting a new job not you!!

Taking away the odd number 7 doesn’t help at this stage. I think I might consider it a “one day” goal!!

I want to learn to play Monkey’s Gone to Heaven by the Pixies too. And Smells Like Teen Spirit. Maybe as part of your PA duties you could go and work those chords out for me. If your boss lets you:)

p.s.

Message from Ira this morning:

Cadd6/Cadd13? I obviously hadn’t had enough sleep or something – It’s a simple C6 :) I was thinking of 13 because I was thinking of adding other notes. Anyway, it’s just a C6 :)
