Force america to write in English
Untitled

Whenever I can, I try to encourage the use of “colour” and “cancelled” and other correct spellings of English words. American English is incorrect, and always will be unless we do something about it, and I was very pleased to see that I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Isn't spelling just a mutually agreed convention?

So America has its convention on spelling and England has another. Who’s to say which one is ‘correct’?

I have to admit that I get annoyed with certain spelling mistakes (such as the ubiquitous ‘loose’ instead of ‘lose’), but at the end of day, if the meaning is conveyed as intended, why get so pedantic about it?

I Shakespeare’s time there were no agreed conventions about spelling, and he might spell the same word several different ways. Does that do anything to diminish his standing as a great writer?

Hmm...

I have to say, I prefer the English way of spelling words, too. But to say that the American way is incorrect, that’s just wrong. It’s as superbligh said – it’s just another convention.
And as long as the meaning of words is clear (unlike the lose-loose debacle) I don’t see any reason why anyone should be FORCED to write British English
