People get Franklin's actual birthdate a little confused 2 years ago

The City Registry of Boston records:
Benjamin Son of Josiah Frankling [sic] & Abiah his Wife born 6 January 1706

According to the Julian calendar then in use, Ben was born on January 6, 1706, but in 1752 Britain and its territories adopted the Gregorian calendar, ‘losing’ eleven days in the process, and moving New Year’s Day from March 25 to January 1, so we celebrate his birthday on January the 17th of 1706, although it is said that he always marked the 6th as his true birthdate. Incidentally, the Boston registry was later amended to reflect the new year designation, but not the new date.

What a great fact! I never knew this, though I admit that Franklin has never held my historical focus.

I have no idea why I have this Franklin Fetish

...except I’m completely taken with the way his mind worked. How can one man accomplish so much in a lifetime and still ponder philosophy and life’s little quirks and take it further and unabashedly publish this thoughts?

Further, he would use clothing and accessories to dress himself in different situations to create a certain perception to help him attain his goals. He knew how to work the fine details in order to get his way. I could go on…

revengeofnudefreedom Merry Christmakwanzakuh!

I've always admired that Franklin ....

Accomplished much of what he did at a very elderly stage in his life.

I think he and I would be on the same wave length when it comes to much of his philosophical beliefs.

I’ve got to get the mail, and I hear Burger King calling me. And I need to do at least something around the house today, so I won’t feel like kicking my “lower protrusions.” for not doing anything besides typing stuff in here today.

But I will be here off and on until around 11:30 CST, never-the-less.

kicking your lower protrusions

I’d like to see you do that Rev!

Fascinating...

It appears your Mr. Franklin and my Leonardo Da Vinci had a few things in common in that they were both revolutionary thinkers who liked to ask questions. I’m going to have to do some reading on Franklin as well…I’m sure in the almost non-existent chance that I take nothing away from it, it will be great reading.

Now I think Leonardo didn’t go so far as to play dress up…that would have gotten him killed in his day, but he did go au naturale from time to time (it is said he was the model for Michaelangelo’s “David” ).

I agree with your Franklin/Da Vinci analogy

Da Vinci is a great study. I have read the Da Vinci Code; although it is a work of fiction, do you think that a lot of the references to Da Vinci is factually based?

Much to my great shame- being the lover of books that I am -I have not read the Da Vinci Code. (gasp!) I have seen the movie, but I know the movie is never quite as good as the book. The movie did not have many details about Da Vinci, it was more focused on action to move the plot forward. The author of the book states that the truth was manipulated to make things fit into the story, but in all honesty, I can’t say I know.

Also,

how do you feel about making a Da Vincimania Goal?...it would make it much easier for me to catch up on Da Vinci facts(a selfish request):)

(This comment was deleted.)

I don't think

I could handle yet another goal…I have plenty with the few that I have listed! But I think that I could post some facts under my current goal of becoming a modern day Leonardo Da Vinci…how about that?
