The Sheltering Sky (97)

Completed the Sheltering Sky. I’m glad I finished it, because now I think it’s a fantastic novel and I highly recommend it. About halfway, I felt it was dragging and I was starting to feel like I wasn’t interested in the things the author expected me to be. Off and on during the middle, I got tired of it and considered putting it down. My desire to complete this “100 Best Novels” kept me going. About 3/5 of the way into it, the heart of the novel begins, for which all pages preceding seem to merely be preparation for the novel as Kit’s tale. The ending is, from a literary perspective, perfectly sublime. I walk away from this book, caring so much more about it than I would’ve suspected during the first 3/5ths of it.

A great read.. if you start it, finish it!
