avphibes is getting my household in order

learn indesign
Harder than anticipated 2 years ago

For some crazy reason, I thought I could just sit down and spend a day doing tutorials and know how to use indesign. In retrospect, I realize this is insane, being as it’s taken me years to become “expert” at photoshop and illustrator. I guess I figured that since the interface was similar, I would pick it up very quickly. So, yes, the similar interface does make it less alien, but it’s going to take a bit of doing until I would say that I really know the program. I need to find more exercises to do so I can apply it practically.

Same for me

This is not a very intuitive program. I’m using a Classroom in a book which seems like it’s taking forever.

I think I learned more from the tutorials than I have from the book.

Good Luck!!

That’s good to know about the book. When I learned photoshop, I started with the Classroom in a book, but after about five chronological lessons, I just started trying to muddle my way through actual projects I wanted to do (like making business cards) and looking every step up as I went along.

I’m trying to think of some project I could give myself involving indesign, but I haven’t come up with any good ideas yet. I’ve always just done all my layouts in illustrator, but I think I might need to know indesign if I go out applying for jobs.
