Hi Mike!
I did it because I wanted to! Really, I’d just had something of an epiphany about how our bodies are just the things we’re stuck in here and if we’re too afraid to use them to express ourselves however we want to, we’re no good at being human beings. They’re just a tool, aren’t they? The real bits of us are our souls and personalities and emotions and ideas. Our bodies were just randomly assigned to us. We should use them as a way to show all of the lovely things you can’t see. If we let them hinder us we’re being so wasteful and silly. I did it because I wanted to make sure I understood.
It was rather simple doing it. I chopped off most of my hair until it was about as short as it could get, then I put regular shaving cream all over it and started with a regular razor [electric clippers probably work better.] I did the top of my head first, so as to let the bristlier hairs in the back and such soften a bit in the cream. I also went with the grain when I was shaving, which didn’t result in as close a shave as possible, but was also more comfortable. It took about an hour.
I don’t think I’ll be keeping it shaved, because of the time it takes to maintain and because my head gets a bit chilly. I might do it again for summer.
My mom was mortified at first, but she came around and she likes it quite a lot now! My friends all think it’s either hilarious, insane, or cool. They’re lovely people.
I may have chosen the silliest time/existence to embark upon a journey of self-realization, being a 16-year-old girl in high school, but it was worth it. If nothing else, it was a change. I needed a change.
