Tune in and act on my intuition (read all 6 entries…)
One of my students 2 years ago

Was talking about our morning topic, “Not Sweating the Small Stuff.” He stated that his small stuff was worrying about his two brothers who are in jail… one is serving a life sentence. I was wowed by his story. I had to stop him, because I didn’t think it was small stuff, that is big stuff for a 10 year old! My heart went out to him. He has no communication with him and won’t be able to visit him until he turns 18. There was something that happened inside of me- that makes me want to go visit his brother. It may sound weird, but this keeps coming back to me and I don’t want to ignore it (even if it seems a little foreign and slightly scary).

I know what you mean~

I remember a couple of years ago- I had free choices for the students on a Friday afternoon… there was a group of students painting a mural they were all talking about their father’s being in prison. It was a harsh reality, some of them believe it’s a part of life. That’s why we talk about making choices and planning for the future we truly desire. Not one of being housed behind bars~

You're right

That’s big stuff. I’ll be interested to see what you decide.

When I get the information

About which prison he’s in, I will be going.

Wow

That is quite a story.. from a 10 year old! You wonder on some level if that is “small stuff” to him and if there are even bigger things in his life (I can’t even imagine what they might be). I am a firm believer in signs and in listening to your inner voice. I think we know what we are supposed to do if we just tune in. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Actually, he has experienced more...

When I had him last year (in 4th grade), I learned from his second grade teacher that he witnessed his sister’s boyfriend murder her when he was in kindergarten. It happened on their front porch. There are more life-altering events. That is why I do plan to go, even without knowing exactly why, other than a still small voice telling me to do it.

I will be

anxious to hear how your visit goes, if you chose to share that.

Oh my gosh

So much trauma so young.

It will mean the world to him that you have taken an interest.

I know...

Some of what I hear is unbelievable… at least, I don’t want to believe what some of my students face. I believe that it will mean something, my intention is to reach out~
