SPOILERS
So my partner buys DVDs Lol And last xmas he brought me this one, saying “i’m sure you’re gonna love this one”.
It’s Effroyables jardins (Dreadful gardens), a Jean becker movie (2003).
If you really intend to see this movie, don’t read too much.
A boy, Lucien, 14, is ashamed by his father, whose a respected teacher. he doesn’t understand why he’s got to make a fool of himself acting a clown. One day, André, who’s the best friend of his father, tells him how this vocation started. He tells him how at the end of WWII, he and his father did a little act of resistance, but got caught by the Germans, with two others they were thrown into a “hole” (like a well), waiting to be shot.
MEGA SPOILERS
This story is absolutely beautiful. It’s funny and serious in the same time. I think it was also original, and the boy will actually discover, as his father’s friend tells him their story, that you can act a clown, and look ridiculous, but that you can be someone good, and actually it means that you understand the meaning of life, and that our time is too short to bother being too serious. That you learn to be humble. The end is very emotional.
There’re several good actings in that movie, but one who’s an outstanding actor to me, one of the best certainly, André Dussolier.
This is one of my very favorite movies of all. I highly recommand it!
