I’m getting closer I think. We are missing a defined, coming of age… rite of passage, ritual. Miss T said she really doesn’t want a celebration. I let her know its not a celebration and it wouldn’t necessarily be as much fun as it should be serious. She has had responsibility put upon her and whatever “ritual” I happen to find or adopt should impress the fact that there will be more to come. The little kid is done, the young women starts now.
Of course, I’ll wait till after Christmas. No need to get serious that quick.
My gut says to make it a strong event. My head says keep it simple. She’s going to have a hard enough time as it is.
The stars. The four directions. Earth, wind & fire. Mind, body & soul. Past, present & future. Oil & water.
This is a coming of age for me too. Its going to get alot harder before it gets easier.

I recall that my oldest daughter had a coming of age ritual that she did with my mate and a few other women it was pretty cool from what I knew of it. I remember that she was not feeling well that weekend and that she was diligent with the time she was left alone in her teepee structure to meditate and reflect. She did this when she was 12. SHe is 19 now and on her own. My other 2 daughters have had different coming of age rituals. Funny my oldest ended up defining one of the coming age of rituals that all my girls were attracted to.
When my mate and I were hand fasted the first time I designed a tattoo for the 2 of us. My oldest wanted to get the tattoo as well. So when she was 16 she was permitted to do so. The tat became our family crest in essence. Each other girls then waited eagerly for their turn for the family tat. So each of them on their 16th birthday got the family tat. It is pretty cool and I never thought that my girls would appreciate and cherish the tat, design and the meaning of it and how it bonds our family. any how thought I would share.
