And I think I might have made a very important step in my career as a web designer to become a usability specialist today! This is a very good thing!

This is a smart move and a great thing to have on your resume as a web designer. So many folks I have seen providing business to government for web building try to make things pretty first, and give bad advice to the government agency regarding how they should go about choosing what they want their web page to look like. The result? Stupid web pages with lots of pretty graphics that you can’t find a thing on. One web company that cost an arm and a leg advised a group to get their site contents done through a graphic designer first. What kind of stupid advice is that? You can only imagine the outcome.
Being able to market yourself with this specialty on the side will give you the cutting edge! Hats off to you for making this a goal!

thanks!!! I needed to hear that!!
In between battles with marketing and developers and other designers, sometimes it is very easy to lose the focus regarding usability. marketing wants the latest and greatest. developers want cool new challenges. designers want beautiful sites. and no one seems to focus on what’s best for the user. it’s who we work for.
