I will certainly avoid the ones that are obviously scary (since I’m a weenie), and maybe a few others, but I want to make a good attempt to read at least a few more than I have already. Several of these I read before high school. A few more I read in high school.
Comments:
cool! i like that list… are there any books on that list that are still banned… can they actually ban books these days?
BluePlasticStraw is reminding herself that goals are important
Oh yes
It happens pretty regularly, especially with Young Adult material like the ones on that list.

ah, well, I don't know...
But I went to look up the origins of this list for more information. It’s called the 100 most frequently banned books of 1990-2000, put out by the American Library Association. Here’s the original list/announcement:

I’m sure books can still be banned, but librarians are tenacious folk, and they seem to keep the books around regardless. I live in Alabama, and you can be damn sure somebody here is trying to ban them! WHICH ONLY MAKES ME WANT TO READ THEM MORE!
(That’s the only reason I read that Howard Stern book – because of the stink people made about it!)

Whoa! The "Scarey Stories" series?
Amazing! I read those all the time as a kid (I even listened to the on-tape versions). I can’t believe it – so many of the stories in there are just classic ghost stories that kids hear some version of at boy/girl scout camp anyhow…
I guess it makes a bit of sense, though – the pictures are GRUESOME and haunt me to this day (but I’m not complaining – I really think it’s GOOD for kids to be scared, once in awhile). I never would have thought they would be banned for that, however. Idiots.
Thanks very much for that link – I’m going to bookmark it.
ANDHow to Eat Fried Worms (another childhood favorite)?!! Now that’s just silly.

Those pictures! Those awful pencil sketches! I’ll never forget them…. !
yes, books can still be banned in school districts. i do a report on censorship every year. many books are challenged each year. i applaud you for try to read them, as i am trying myself. dont give up on them. they can be difficult someitmes, but they usally turn out to be very good books. by the way, spetember 24- october 1 is banned books week, so celebrate by reading a banned book!
I just found...
this list online today. I saw a link to it on another blog. I copied the list and marked all the ones I have read. I am going to repost that as my first entry for this goal. I couldn’t believe how many I have already read. Many of them before I was 16.
