finish my sleeve tattoo (read all 2 entries…)

I’ve wanted a sleeve tattoo for a long time, and about a year ago I realized what it was I could committ to enough to have all over my arm. Jack Kirby. Big, bombastic, flashy Jack Kirby art. Maybe at some point I’ll explain why it works for me.

On May 30 I actually started getting them, with two other sessions since then. The end result will be an entire sleeve on my right arm, with color.

...with more to come. The next one will probably be Big Barda on the inside of my forearm, for a bit of Kirby tattoo cheesecake. Who’s Big Barda? Ask Michael Chabon.

Hey, thanks! I’m really happy with them so far. The guy doing them is obviously excited about it, too, and he’s doing an amazing job. I can’t wait ‘til I get to the point where the color goes in.

These are seriously the coolest tattoos I’ve ever seen. You chose great images and your artist did an amazing job of capturing the feel of Kirby’s work. Can you tell us who the tattoo artist is?

Thanks! Yeah, I spent some time trying to find a good tattoo place and then went in and asked if anyone who worked there liked comics. I definitely got lucky with the artist and he’s been really into the whole idea, which is great. I didn’t want to have someone doing it who’d get bored with it. :)

Cool way to represent Kirby! Did you ever get your Big Barda tattoo? I got a Big Barda tatto started in early May on my calf and it’s going to be colored in two weeks.

It looks great! Glad I hadn’t chosen the same image, though, that’d be so tacky. :) It’s funny you wrote because just this past weekend I finally got my Barda done.
