I had a boss who used to say “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king!”

and technology is often the land of the blind. there isn’t anyone who knows all there is to know about technology. sometimes you just dive in, knowing full well you’re in over your head and could make a huge mess of things and end up with one really pissed-off client and no paycheck to show for it.

My success rate is about 85-90% pull it off, 10-15% of the time someone needs to pull my ass out of the fire. In this case it helps to have a boss who is
1) good at pulling people’s ass out of the fire and making nice with pissed-off clients
2) remembers how much money he makes from your efforts the other 90% of the time.

ESPECIALLY if that boss is just you, yourself.

oh, and it’s really important that you don’t get your ass stuck in the same fire twice.
