celebrate Zanna's birthday on 8th December with another amazing virtual breakfast martini party (glass-smashing optional)! (read all 2 entries…)
I was very sad 2 years ago

not to be able to be at the party due to lack of internet access, but I was definitely there in spirit, happily raising Martini glasses to the honorable agent Zanna amongst the towers of moving boxes in Casa Curlychaos. The poodles made sure to do some loud and ridiculous howling, and alternated between pointing to Germany and to the stars.
It sounds like you had a brilliant day Zanna, I`m especially glad you got the opportunity to do some loud and ridiculous singing! Birthdays would be nothing without that.

you most definitely

were there in the spirits.

you know, stine, i was thinking today that you should definitely tick off your “get an interesting job in writing” goal as done in the next few days (or when you’ve collected 100 cheers?). even if you don’t have a permanent writing job (yet), you are clearly a top-notch journalist with front-page stories, angry bishops and cakes interviews the prime minister. when i think of you back there in your boring job, permanently about to crish your computer—well, it’s a quantum leap and deserves a huge green tick!

hooray for stine, high-end journalist of the north!

Thank you! :)

have thought of ticking it off, since I have been working as a journalist most of the time since July, covering important jelly events, upsetting bishops and bringing crayons to PM interviews. I only get work for a few days or weeks at a time though, so it feels like a bit of a stretch to say that I have got a job in writing. But you`re right, my job situation now is at least incredibly different to the OMG I`m crishing-job situation I started this year with! :)

I`m in the running for a 1 year contract here now though. The editor just told me they need 3 people, and there are 7 applicants that are being interviewed. He told me that I`m among the people they are considering, but they won`t interview me, because I had an interview quite recently (beofre I got the summer job) and they know me. Not sure if that`s a good or bad thing. It is good that they know me and know my work, if they were unhappy with my work, I guess they would ask me to come to an interview to ask me about the things they were unhappy with. It might also mean that the other applicants are really strong and they don`t really think I`m the one they want though. And since they I won`t be interviewed, I won`t get to argue my case. Hm.

sounds a bit weird

I mean, it’s great that they’ve told you they are considering you, but surely you should have a formal interview like any other candidate, so that it is a level playing field? Am not an expert on employment law but this does seem a little odd.

Paws crossed that it simply means they’ve decided to give you the job already!

Yes it would certainly not hold water here

in employment law circles.

which I was an expert on in a previous existence

It is

a bit strange, but I`m not sure how muh good it would to to insist on my right to be interviewed. If I did, I would end up feeling that I should really have important things to say that they didn`t know already, since I insisted on an opportunity to say things about my application, and I would make myself all nervous and start babbling.
It`s not looking too good unfortunately. I just heard that a woman who has worked there on a one year contract got one of the jobs. So only two left, and I think there are several others on 1-year contracts, not sure when their contracts expire, but they would be prioritized before me I guess. And they`re interviewing people who don`t currently work there as well. I hate this kind of thing. One of the editors told me they would try to make a decision as soon as possible, but they weren`t sure they would decide who to hire before Christmas. But aparently, they have decided to hire that one person at least. And I only heard that through a guy who retired years ago but likes to come by the office to chat with people, and he had heard it somewhere. Sigh.

I see what you mean

making a fuss about being interviewed might backfire, and anyway your work for them stands for itself.

But hang in there! They may have allocated one of the places but that leaves two more. You never know what’s round the corner. There was a time when you thought you’d never get out of Casa Spider, for example, and now you’re living blissfully free from spiders!

or even small leaves

I think

I mentioned this before, but I didn’t get interviewed for my current job, and I got it. The unsuccessful applicants had right of appeal, but they didn’t, so don’t worry about the lack of an interview.

I agree with Zanna

You should tick it off as done. It IS a quantum leap from last year and is most certainly achieved.

All paws crossed here that you get the contract, with your track record you must feel optimistic, and if you don’t you have now got a lot of great stuff to go on your CV while you look around elsewhere.

you can always replace with a ‘get a permanent job in writing’ goal

Thank you

I think I might ust tick it of soon. I`m worrying about the job application there though. They now say they won`t decide until some time in january (they initially said before christmas). And they are having some people for second interviews.
Even if I don`t get it, there might be more temp work there while I look for something else though ofcourse, and I have got a lot more experience than I had already, excellent for my resume. But if I don`t get it, it won`t be that much fun to work there as a temp. I mean, there are several openings there now, I have worked there for 6 months and I feel like I`ve done a good job, so if they chose not to hire me, it feels like a strong signal that they don`t appreciate me much or don`t like my work.
Oh well. I`ll just have to hope for the best.
