become fluent in korean
So hard, why?? 1 year ago

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can do this? I’ve taken Korean going on 3 years now, and I still feel like my speaking and listening skills suck ass. My mom is Korean and has suggested I watch a bunch of Korean dramas, since she learned English by watching American soap operas. I plan on doing this (since I love kdramas anyway…sooooooo addicting), but I’m open to other suggestions.

Your mother’s Korean? So what happened, she never spoke it to you growing up?

I guess you’re taking it in college. It’s always good to take from multiple sources. Try langintro.com, for instance. Wikibooks probably has something, or mahalo.com. You can find an audio course and speed up the sound to get used to fast speech. And best of all, your mom! As a native speaker she’s got loads of information stored in her brain that she doesn’t even know about. If some of your teachers ar native and some aren’t, perfect. Good to get both the native and foreign perspectives, cause one may miss something the other wouldn’t.

After 3 years though, you’re probably way advanced as it is; is it just your speed that sucks? Or maybe slang trips you up?
