act as liaisons between wish children and the Make-A-Wish® office. A wish granter meets with the wish child and his or her family to plan their one special wish.
It really depends on the need for wish granters in your area. It can be sporadic based upon the amount of children who qualify for a wish and where they live, so we may not always have openings. The average wish granter grants 1-3 wishes per year.
I have met with 3 wish kids so far. You plan the wish kids special day, fill out the paper work, send the paper work to the office. They do the leg work and let you know when everything will take place. You and another volunteer (always work in 2s) plan the wish party to supply the family with the things they need to go on the child’s wish. So a party may include cake/balloons, maybe some pizza. Then you contact the family after the wish with some follow up paper work. In one wish I have put in probably 3 hours so far. The other one has only been 1 hour, but the wish hasn’t been granted yet.
