I wondered how you were getting on.
I have managed to get my anger under control since therapy, as I have a release for my frustrations.
Something you might try as well is being more aware of your emotions, including the more subtle ones.
Anger can start as follows:
1) Very mild frustration
2) Frustration
3) Slightly annoyed
4) Annoyed
5) Quite angry
6) Very angry
7) Mild rage
8) Complete rage
9) Picking up the nearest pick axe ;o)
Seriously though if we get in tune with our more subtle emotions, then we can catch it at 1-3 above rather than catching it at 5 or 6.
One way of getting emotional awareness is what is known as a body scan. Not sure if you realised but emotions, especially ones such as fear and anger our manifested in the body.
Sometimes in the stomach, solar plexus, or stiffening of shoulders or neck. It all relates to the parasympathetic system and “fight or flight”. Other signs are racing heart etc.
If we practise body scans, and emotional scans, then we practise being more in tune with our emotions.
And after all emotions are very useful bits of information that a lot of people these days ignore to their peril.
The earlier you catch the build up of anger, the more you can sensibly deal with it. i.e. once you reach the rage level, you will be out of control, but if you are just slightly frustrated or annoyed, you can go outside for a walk, or tell someone you feel sick (a white lie to avoid slapping them lol).
Things like therapy, sport, talking problems over with friends, meditation, relaxation techniques etc, can help release suppressed emotions so they don’t build up.
What can happen is that if a few people annoy us, it is stored within us unless we release it in some way. So the 5th or 6th person who annoys us gets all the previous anger thrown at them. This is not fair on them! And makes us look foolish because we are literally overreacting.
If you have tense muscles it is often a sign of stored / suppressed emotions (unless you have stiffness due to physical exertion).
Anyway good luck with it, and let me know how you get on :o)
