Questions 1 and 2 23 months ago

First two questions:
1. Have you ever made one of somebody’s dreams come true?
2. Has anybody ever made one of your dreams come true?

I don’t mean serious, but wonderful, things like marriage or degrees or stuff like that. I mean more frivilous types of dreams.

Me:
1. Yes. A girl I dated loved Garth Brooks and told me one of her dreams was to see him in concert. About 3 months into our relationship, tickets to see him went on sale. I braved the line and got us great seats. The concert was amazing. We both had a wonderful time. After the conert was over and I took her home, I told her “I hope I get the chance to make some more of your dreams come true.” I didn’t. She dumped me 2 weeks later for some other guy. I am still glad I got the chance to do this, though. No matter how she tries, she won’t be able to forget me.

2. Yes, two years ago my best friend’s wife, who I also think the world of, met the owner of Nashville’s AAA baseball team. I am a huge baseball fan, and I have always wanted to throw out the first pitch at a professional game. She arranged for me to do just that and managed to keep it a surprise until we got to the stadium. They announced my name when I went out. They even listed me on the official roster for that game. I got up there on the mound just like I’d always dreamed of, and I threw a strike. Everybody cheered for me. I still have the ball on my desk at work. It remains the nicest thing anybody has ever done for me.

Great stories, Wyvie

Your first one shows a lot about you as a person. It takes a lot of trust and selflessness to co-sign a loan for someone. Your trip sounds like it was a lot of fun.

I can’t believe you like baseball, too. Hooray!

bp is ready to travel. <3

That is so cool Wy! I would travel to see locations from The X-Files and LOST (but who wouldn’t want to see the “island”)

Somewhat random question

Have you seen the documentary Double Dare? It’s about Xena’s stunt double and it’s brilliant!! I can’t recommend it highly enough. I think I’ve only seen Xena once or twice, but this film made me want to see some more episodes just to see her work.

Good questions, Jamie

1)I had a boyfriend, first true love really, who was a ginormous (there I said it ;D) music fan. He really wanted a kickass stereo system, and had a downpayment but no credit. One afternoon I kidnapped him, taking him to the stereo store, where I gave him the wedding ring I had “borrowed” from my grandfather, donning my grandmother’s matching band so that I could co-sign a loan as his wife. I’m not sure which was the bigger dream at the time, to get his stereo or to “be” married for awhile. Probably the stereo.
2)No one has ever made a dream of mine come true in the little ways, although I have two gorgeous children and a number of others blessings, so don’t feel too sorry for me. I have always counted on myself to make my dreams come true.

I would have

picked being married as the bigger dream, but that’s just me. Using your grandparents’ rings was brilliant. Great story, Jenn! Bonus points for ginormous, of course! :P

I would have, too

and being married to one’s true love sounds like a dream come true. Unfortunately, he was too young to see that. He still is, actually. Playing married for a short time was good enough for us. He’s still a friend, but I’ve moved on. Way on.

Now you have me thinking. I deserve to have someone make my dream come true, don’t I? Perhaps one reason why no one ever has is that I have never fully unpacked my dreams, the smaller ones, to know what that would look like. I think perhaps I need to start unpacking, and then make my feelings known. Hmmm.

Thanks, sweets, for the food for thought.

Everybody

deserves to have someone make at least one of their dreams come true. It can be your husband, one of your kids, a friend, or a stranger, but you certainly deserve it. You certainly should figure it out and make your feelings known.

Contemplative Jenn is longing, forcefully

Right again

Everybody. I will, and I will.

thank you jamie,

you have just reminded me of two very beautiful moments …

creating a dream
my kiwi girlfriend was getting married but her family couldnt get over to sydney for the wedding. so i flew her and hubby-to-be out to nz where they had an impromptu wedding in whangarei with her family .. she even got to wear her moms beautiful vintage wedding dress and looked fabulous, then they came back home to sydney and did it all over again for us .. she was radiant when she got back.

experiencing a dream
once, i received an invitation to go on a ‘shell picking extravaganza’ from my man .. i lived in broome at the time and he lived in port hedland .. 600kms south, so r&r breaks were special times!

we drove along eighty mile beach for three days of beach-combing, camping, playing, drinking, dancing, swimming, skinny dipping .. there was a full moon so i even got to pick shells by moonlight .. just the two of us the whole time, total heaven and definitely a dream come true.

Those stories

are indeed beautiful. I’ve never had the chance to visit Australia or New Zealand (though I’ve always wanted to, but I can picture it from your stories.

The story of shellpicking by moonlight sounds utterly magical.

given the chance

to be anywhere in the world
i would choose the beach
to walk upon wet sand, with the wind my hair
and the sound of the ocean crashing in
all the more magical
if im picking shells by moonlight

i hope that you make it downunder one day!

I hope so, too

My 17 year old cousin got to go to Australia about 2 years ago. She went all over the country and even spent three days living with a family in the Outback. She loved her trip except while she was in the Outback, she discovered that she is deathly allergic to kangaroo dander. They even had to airlift her to a hospital. I guess they don’t check for that allergy here in the States.

wowee

thats not an allergy you’d want in the middle of the outback!

she got the bonus ‘flying doctor’ experience tho, sure to provide her with a few good travel stories at least :o)

I love

this story. If we were having a Dream-off, you would win for sure with it. What you did for your friend was simply amazing and shows what a wonderful, selfless person you are.

Spending the night in an igloo soumds like an incredible once in a lifetime experience. I’m sure he’ll never forget what you did for him. Yay you!

As cold

as it was in Ohio this week, I thought the opportunity was going to present itself. I actually checked and it was warmer in Winnipeg on Wednesday than it was here.

Even I, who intensely dislikes snow, would jump at the chance to sleep in an igloo.

Hmmmmm?

I’ve been thinking about this for two days now. Back in the day (when I was in my 20’s) I had tons of adventures and I was trying to think if any of them pertained to these questions…well I gave up and this is what I’m going with.

1. In 2004, I finally finished and received my associates degree. It made my parents very proud. I graduated high school in 1989 and didn’t start taking college classes until 1998. Then I took one to two classes a semester. I graduated Cum Laude which also made my parents proud because in high school I never applied myself and got horrible grades because I was too busy socializing and having fun. :\ If only I knew then what I know now. ;)

2. My parents helped me buy my condo in September.

Great Answers!

During my 10 years of teaching, I have found that people who have been away from school for a while often make for my best students. I think the time off makes them more mature. I’ve also found that students who didn’t do so well in High School often do better than those who got straight A’s. I have a couple of theories on this, but I’m not positive about why this is often true.

I think it's

because they feel guilty for not doing so well in high school and now that want to prove to themselves (and their parents) that they can get A’s. At least that’s how I feel. :)

I think

that has a lot to do with it. Also, 18 and 19 year olds are often stubborn about asking for help or seeking out tutoring and often see it as “what bad students do.” Students who did not do well in high school are often so nervous that they seek it out from the beginning.
