get me a pair of skates

My sisters and I spent almost every weekend at the skating rink when we were younger – It was a blast! I would love to get a pair of skates for memories sake, and also because I would love to dress up as a 70’s-80’s skater girl for Halloween this year. I found a store yesterday that has all the apparel that I could ask for. I even got me a new pair of green/yellow tube socks while I was there that I have been wanting for so long now. I searched and searched for them when I was on Haight/Ashbury shopping with my daughters last year, but couldn’t find that particular color. Anyway, this goal will also motivate me to get myself in better shape because I certainly don’t want to be a chunky monkey skater girl.

i had skates like those too! and when i was even younger, i had the ones that you attach to your regular shoes! ya know, the ones that almost look like a mini skateboard with a loop to attach it to your shoes! man i want to go skating now! i have rollerblades and ice skates (i wanted to play ice hockey – big goal for a new ice skater!) that need to be loved once again! go, skater girl! i’d love to see your costume :)

By then I’ll be happy to post a photo. I’m slowly, but surely losing weight. My appetite has somewhat diminished lately. I think that getting a little closer to happiness helped, and I’m not emotion eating anymore. I can already tell in my face and boonas that there is a change….so it’s sad to see the boonas going, but oh well.

Ooops, we were talking about skates weren’t we…see how self absorbed I am hahaha
Yeah, I do remember those skates with the straps…ha! memories. Did your skates have the metal wheels?
...Did they have ice hockey girl teams, or were you wanting to be really rough and play with the boys?

actually, my desire to play ice hockey developed after college! when i was maybe 25? i missed field hockey but couldn’t find any leagues for women near me, and thought to myself, why not learn to ice skate so you can play ice hockey? lol. i was willing to play with the boys if necesary, once i could skate well enough, but they do also have adult teams for women (including beginners!)... but then my life became complicated with the breakup, dui, etc and it kinda fell off the face of the earth. i had been going to the ice rink and just practiced skating on my own and was getting fairly decent for never having skated before, but im probably back to square one at this point. will have to drag him to the rink one day to see!

That would be something fun to do with the kiddos too. You definitely need to get out there and do that-Work your up to joining a team…It’s never too late, chica-mahica

i’ve actually mentioned doing that with the kids but he’s always a bit overprotective of them and afraid they will get hurt. i will bring it up again soon and see what happens. i’ll keep trying, thanks amiga!!!

Buy em.

I bought some roller blades a few years back, great fun!!! You just don’t slide as far on the pavement as you do on ice….matter of fact it is more like scrapping and rolling.

Ouch!

I’ve only fallen once and that was on
roller blades, when I was first learning. Falling and scraping anything is just not an option at 37-
Not quite the same as falling when you’re young, for me anyway.

I do need to get me a pair. Just need to find the time to look around, maybe I’ll request some for Mothers Day. The weather couldn’t be more perfect right now for skating outdoors…:)I’m getting all excited again.
