The On Going List of Have vs. Need
  • HAVEemergency rechargeble lights – $9 each at Home Depot; one in each bedroom and bathroom – they turn on automatically when the power goes out. We can turn them off to conserve batteries and just use one at at time until the power comes back on
  • HAVEcandles – lots, wide based, cheap, many fire-proof tiles to set them on. Have to remember to put them out when not in the room.

Water storage.

In an emergency you can always pull from both your toilet’s tank and your water heater as I’m sure you know but I’m also thinking about getting something like these corner tanks:

I worry about my horse primarily in case of an earthquake here and the water going down for days at a time. I just need to get some extra spending money to be able to purchase it.

ANyway I saw you were doing water storage. I like your thoughts on canned dog food too. I hadn’t thought of the problems storing dry food. Thanks for the note.

Candles

The American Red Cross prefers you not to use them because of the fire risk. Emergency services will be strained enough after a disaster without them putting out the house fire you started from your candles! But you’re right, if you can remember to put them out when you leave the room, they’re OK.
