read all of the books on the ALA's list of 100 most frequently challenged books of 1990-2000 (read all 5 entries…)
Untitled 4 years ago

The following is a list of the 100 most frequently challenged books from 1990-2000, as recorded by the ALA. I bolded the books I have read – nearly all of them before the age of 16. I have also marked the books I plan to read. There are a few I have NO interest in. I suspect some of the sex and growing up books I haven’t read, and haven’t marked, I will read with/for one of my (as yet unconceived) children. I am sorry haven’t read more than I have, but I am going to change that.

Comments:

The Headless Cupid? Really?

That book is about little kids making up a poltergeist. There was no swearing or sex, although their parents WERE divorced. Scandal!

Don't know

haven’t read that one yet. Although I was shocked that Crazy Lady is on the list. I think once someone uses the word Damn. It is about a drunk lady with a retarded son and how the community learns and grows and helps them.

Yeah, that’s a good book to keep you kid from reading, one where people learn to like those who are different.

evenstar42 Merry Christmas all :o)

I'm really surprised at some of these...

some of them (Of Mice and Men, To Kill A Mockingbird, Summer of My German Soldier) were even required reading when I was in school. And – James and the Giant Peach?! Sheesh… I can’t think of a more innocently fun book…

Lady S has gotten 1 cheer on this entry.
