A member of my husband’s family invented something (no, I don’t remember what at the moment) and failed to get a patent. Eventually someone else came up with something along the same lines and made a fortune. (Of course, had my husband’s family been rich, I’m sure that we wouldn’t have ended up together – so it ended well for me :-) )

Go for it – pursue your dreams!
