the DVD “Basic Car Maintenance for Pretty Hands” and the book “Basic Car Maintenance for Dummies.” The book goes into more depth about how to perform basic car maintenance and why you need to do certain tasks. The movie was okay, I did learn some stuff but it seemed a little rediculous at times. For example it said something like, “One common misconception about the octane ratings of fuel is some think the number is related to the year of the car.” My fiance and me looked at eachother, paused, and then burst out laughing. Now I’ll admit I don’t know much about cars but that was just hilarious.
I think this video would be perfect for absolute beginners who are still learning to drive. I did learn about all the fluids I needed to add, how to add air and check pressure to the tires, and a little about burst fuses. And the narrorators accent drove me crazy. But then again this is one of the very few videos out there on car maintenance, and I learn by seeing and hearing…whereas reading the Dummies book I got a little confused. So I guess I’m a bit of a dummy then.
I’ll consider this a work in progress.
...yet to learn, how to change a tire.
