First submission of 2008

As several of you may know, I made a promise to myself to submit at least one piece per month for publication to a journal, magazine, or contest. I, just minutes ago, submitted a short story, Pirates and Angels, to a contest run by a rather long-shot journal. So January, she is done. Although I hope to make it two submissions for this month, just to start the year off right, maybe build some momentum. Still, it feels good to have done this. It feels like progress.

procrastination

is actually my default setting! The need to be proactive overrode it this time, out of necessity beyond all else.

Thanks Mollie. Hope you are doing well, sweetie.

Calissa needs to make space to play

Well done!

I know what you mean about procrastination being the default setting. I need to give myself a kick up the bum too!

I often find

I need to trick myself into overriding my procrastinatrix (that sounds kind of naughty, doesn’t it? I need to go home ;D).

I am learning to set up drop-deadlines that are earlier than the ultimate deadlines, and breaking goals down into smaller parts so that each step I can take a moment to revel in my accomplishment. These are arbitrary constructs, for sure, but they work. Sometimes. Others, there is no substitute for a boot in the bum.

Good luck, Calissa!

Starting the year off right!

Way to knock one off Jenn! And I’m doubly impressed that instead of getting complacent, you’ve set the intention to submit yet ANOTHER piece. YAY YOU!!

I so appreciate

your encouragement, as always. It feels like more of a bunt than a homerun, but it’s progress, anyway. Any progress is good progress, I recognize that, so thank you. If I can’t be whole, at least I can be driven. :)

Poetry Man Why, yes! I am a nerd.

Good Work!

I’m pulling for your piece to get published. That said, just putting something in the mail is a huge step in itself that should be celebrated.

Fingers crossed

Dude, I feel like I’m always thanking you for something! :) You are the sweetest, really. I would love to have my creative work published, but it is the act of sending it out that it most important to my progress as a writer right now. So yes, you’re right, each submission is to be celebrated. As for my name in fiction lights, we’ll just have to wait and see. Thanks (there it is) again.

Thanks, Rose

You’re right. We do all the work to birth the piece, and yet the work has just begun (an entirely different kind).
Thanks for your empathy, and the luck as well! :)

Dave will be glad to get home Friday night

Good luck

Congrats, Jenn, on getting Pirates and Angels out. It’s a great piece, and I’m sure someone will pick it up. I look forward to reading the “I got published!!!!” posting.

Me too, Dave

“I got published!!!!” would be a nice post to type.

Thank you for the title (all yours) and the wishes. They mean a lot.

Contemplative Jenn has gotten 5 cheers on this entry.
