I’ve always heard that it takes more calories to digest celery than it does to eat it, hence “negative calories.” While the veracity of this theory is questionable at best, it still gives me a good idea.
Green foods like celery, cucumbers and green beans are so low in calories (or anything else for that matter) that I can use them as backup throughout my day. I like eating just a couple bites at a time, but it’s nice to have a few things around that I know are safe to “graze” on, just in case
I’ve heard the same negative calorie thing about ice-cold water, because digestion has to warm it up to body temperature. That should spend all of about one calorie, though, since water takes on ambient temperature all by itself and the inside of a body is already warm. But water is good, nonetheless, so I still drink it all day.
