Did you do any of this

yet?

I'm doing it bit by bit

I’ve cut out all breads, grains and cereals this last week and am letting myself get used to this before I cut out dairy or anything else.
It’s been pretty good so far, more energy & a more even appetite than usual, just takes a while to get used to structuring meals without those food groups I’m so used to.

I've always wanted to try this way of eating

Now is a good time to give it a go, if you can help me a bit. Are there any good substitutes for breads, grains, and cereals that helps diminish the craving for those foods?

Waynesworld Happy New Year!

Some of this would be difficult.

I really enjoy wholegrain breads, pasta and cheese and all of those are not part of the paleolithic diet.

True

But after reading the link coupland posted, I’m encouraged to give it a try. I practiced this today, so we’ll see if I can stick it out. It reminds me of eating like a caveman/woman to some extent.

I cant remember a time

when my appetite has been on such an even keel -I usually eat like crazy but I’m full after every meal from this kind of eating, the protein makes you feel really full it’s great.
If you go without the breads cereals and grains for a while you’ll find the cravings for them go -I think the cravings come from all the breads cereals & grains. Give it a try and see how you feel. What I would suggest is thinking through what meals you’ll have as it takes a little getting used to what you can eat instead.

I kept in line today with this

How did you do?

Is this really healthy?

This has got me curious, as to what a paleolitic diet is. I’m thinking leafy stuff? Or am I incorrect. I haven’t checked the link yet, so I’m just guessing.

But isn’t bread and grains the most important part of the food pyramid?

I knew a Doctor once who was against The Atkins diet or any low carb or no carb diet. Because a certain anount of carbs are necessary to a balanced diet.

I’ve heard some proponents of Atkins and the like say too many carbs are bad, and the food pyramid is wrong, and some even falsely claim that the food pyramid has been changed. Not true, though. The most current food pyramid still has breads and grains as the most important food group.

I can see some legitimate reasons for cutting or eliminating dairy though.

If you have this extra energy, how are you doing it without eating carbs?

And I’m wondering what the point/theory of this diet is?

bread and grains aren't the most important part of the food pyramid

they’re just the largest part -it’s the easiest way of getting the largest mass of calories in the diet -I don’t think getting enough calories is the problem for most people anymore.

All food is energy -with this kind of eating you’re using more fat for energy than carbs, I’m still eating good portions of fruit and veg each day at the moment -I don’t want to be too restrictive in my eating but cutting the breads, grains and cereals is an easy way to start for me.

The extra energy comes from not overeating I guess, I’m not craving snacks between meals and don’t bother eating unless I’m hungry now.

I wouldn’t say the food pyramid is wrong but I would say when we overeat it’s mainly carbs and I’ve noticed since cutting out breads, grains and cereals I’m pretty much void of cravings.

I’m just trying it step by step at the moment but I’m finding it very good so far.

I did so well ALL DAY

Then, tonight, my daughter presented me with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies she made & I inhaled about five of them. But I drank green tea rather than my usual glass of milk. I’ve eaten gluten free brownies from Whole Foods & need to pick up a supply for emergencies.

Great going coupland. I’m counting on you to inspire me.

Okay I read the link now.

If you’re going to cut out sugar completely, I would think you would then need to eat a sufficent amount of fruit in order to have enough natural sugar. (but then I don’t think that’s something a person needs a lot of, but a small amount is necesssary though.)

I’m not a doctor, so I’m just thinking out loud here.

Apples

Must have apples:)

Apples And A Sugar Substitute

Apples, that’s to keep the doctor away, right?

Seriously, though; what kind of apples? I like Granny Smith the best.

And I was just thinking that one time I bought some raisin bran from a health food store, and instead of the rasins being coated with sugar, they were coated with oat flour. They were actually pretty good, and still tasted fairly sweet.

This is going to sound like a horrible thing to say but; I tried different health foods, or what passed for health foods, and “fake meat” and the like before, some of it wasn’t too bad, and some of it I didn’t care for. But I just couldn’t stick to only eating that kind of stuff. I just craved “the bad stuff” too much.

I prefer exercise to diet in staying in shape. If I had to change what I ate, I don’t think I could stand it. I can eat smaller amounts, and I might be willing to eat something different, but I don’t want to give up any foods that I like.

But, power to people who can, I guess.

P.S.

I know I was being a bit contrarian, and maybe not so helpful in that last post. So, I’ll try to refrain from doing that.

We'll any change

has to come from a desire within yourself. I think this paleolithic diet will be fun! I’m going to eat like a cavewoman, hopefully be satisfied at the same time & see if it results in good health!

You may surprise yourself in the near future and start making some really good food choices:)

blincolnw needs to update this list!

You could be a prennial southern paleolithic woman!
