cut fried food out of my diet. (read all 8 entries…)
I'm hoping this new wrinkle will help. 23 months ago

I’m hoping that adding a wellness coach to whom I have to report in will help me cut this out.

Comments:

Please tell me about your wellness coach. What do wellness coaches do? What training is entailed in becoming a wellness coach? My 16 year old daughter might find wellness coaching an intersting career possibility.

So, how did your first week go? How often do you see your wellness coach? I wish you tremendous success in your health oriented goals. Best wishes!

Good questions!

Kirk told me what his training was, mostly about certification, not about specific degrees, etc., but I didn’t pay much attention. I believe, however, that Kirk told me he is doing this while he is seeking a degree in something health-related. I had the feeling it was a part-time job for him in his field.

The first week, which was actually 2 weeks ago, we just chatted for 10 minutes. He introduced himself, I introduced myself. The next week, he asked me the standard 4 questions he’ll be asking every week, and we talked about where I thought I was. Tomorrow will be our third “meeting.”

These meetings are telephone conversations, 10 minutes long, and they’re sponsored by my health plan, HealthNet. This is the first time I’ve been offered this type of prevention “treatment.” It will go on for 6 weeks. If I want to continue it, I can request that.

I have no idea how your daughter might figure out how to get involved. It didn’t sound like it was a career for the coach I have. But it could certainly be one of the stepping stones to a health career.

Little One

is interested in becoming a personel trainer or something related to nutrition. She is interested in health related topics but she never wants to work in a hospital.
Thanks so much for your response, catattack. It sounds like a wonderful service. Is HealthNet an HMO? Preventitive medicine – marvelous!

Yes, it's an HMO.

I have really liked the way my individual clinic has taken grant money and turned it into nutrition and weight loss meetings for us. And how HealthNet now is tackling these problems in a preventative way. How forward thinking!

I plan to take full advantage. And good luck to you “little one”!

I did a brief web search

on wellness coaching. The possibilities out there look too good to be true. At this point, I am wondering about applying the occupational opportunities for myself.

Catattack, you are a wonderful source of inspiration, both in your accomplishments and from your sharing your experiences!
