Help my son overcome his stuttering (read all 10 entries…)
I know this is going to be 22 months ago

a long haul. I love him so much and my heart aches to watch him struggle. His teacher says he is so smart. We took him to get evaluated yesterday and the woman says he is average to above intelligence so we are not worried on that level. Fortunately he was approved for services through the school district at no charge.

My heart goes out to you, Segsy.
I understand how stigmatized stuttering is, and how misunderstood it is.

I stuttered briefly after I was assaulted in 1991; it took three years to get over it. It was a part of the PTSD I was going thru. not the same as when someone stutters from the start, I know…but I did struggle with people thinking I was a dummy just because I was stuttering. It eventually subsided, at first only occuring when I had to retell what had happened to me…I sounded like “Billy” in “One Flew Over the Cookoo’s Nest.”

Take heart that most people nowadays KNOW he’s intelligent, and it’s not like the dark ages (a few decades ago) when people judged one’s intelligence by this.

(one of my heroes) Thomas Jefferson is reported to have been a stutterer, as well as Winston Churchill…and several other influential people as well.

Hang in there! :)

Thank you for your story

and for your support. It’s really helpful.
One of the issues is, he started a new pre-school last September after being at his old since he was 3 months old. It was a big change for him. He still talks about missing his old school very much. None of his friends from his old school go to this school although he has adjusted very well from the start… except for the stuttering.

Hugs!

these challenges are what make him strong. He’ll be ok. He sounds like a brave little soldier :)

Hah!

I’ve never seen this guy, pretty cool.

I wonder why it is they say singing is better for stutterers…interesting.

How have you been Paolo? London, the new job?

:)
