I’m much better at identifying as a happy person than I was in years past, (although there is always room for improvement.) But I’m still struggling with the healthy part of this goal. I don’t prioritize exercise, I don’t always think of the healthiest foods as being the most delicious. Living in a healthful way still seems like a chore, not just a part of living.

I’m not sure what needs to come first—thoughts or actions, but I’m pretty sure they will go hand in hand and feed each other.

Thoughts and actions do feed each other, for sure. The intent is key to the first action, but each good experience builds positive reaction, which drives the next act. There is a training process involved in living healthily, I think, but it doesn’t need to be that hard, especially once the initial key changes are in place. Here’s more food for thought, though. If you don’t think of the healthy foods as the most delicious, perhaps you are not finding the right healthy foods for you. And if you see exercise as a chore, perhaps you haven’t found the right activities for you, either. I struggle with this constantly. Balance is key, and hardcore shifts are rarely sustainable. Maybe it might work to view this movement as an adventure in sensation and texture, taste. Amass some favorites in both food and activities, or at least some staples you can live with and move from there. Or find some workable alternatives, substitutions.

The training process is hard, and I often feel like I periodically need to return to the beginning. It sounds like you are making progress, though. Cheers for progress, my dear. Know that I’m right there with you in this struggle.
