Dreams do come true !! I own a small island..an acre…with a little house. After dreaming of a peaceful place for a healing retreat, I began to search. The island came to me…at a price so affordable..I could not live in a cardboard box in USA. My little private retreat is enchanting. I have occasionally told strangers.. ..and have gotten some veeery strange looks ! Until i showed my friends the pictures..and the deed…even they had their doubts. No..I am not delusional…I do for real own an island. It is small but safe as it is in large lake but among many small islands only 10-15 slow boat rideto shore and a beuatiful colonial city. I am not rich or famous…it took research…positive belief..and I really believe..some Angelic help.

yes..as soon as I figure out how to send just one without flooding with a zillion pics in my folder of unrelated things. Al photos come out with goblydegok numbers and I have yet to figure out how to lable them with simple titles !! And I have no geeks to call on !!

There are over 100,000 islands in this area, with some available for sale and you’re right, cheap! I see some sale for less than $5,000 USD for a small 1 acre private island. Is your island here in Ontario, or over in British Columbia? Or some other location?

My island is in Central America (Lake Nicaragua)Tropical …very warm ! I am originally from the East Coast (North) USA. Love the climate.season changes but never thought there were islands available (affordable). Tell me about your living on your island ! Do you winter there ? That was a big concern for me was weather and “whether’I could cope with it alone. The people living in the island community (360+ islands varying sizes) Fish and farm. There are some islands that are owned by wealthy people. But…the life has not changed for most and they have much less access to health care. I am going to establish a “clinic” of sorts..to coordinate with land based health care. When I went there….I was literally captured by everyone…they were so warm,friendly,helpful and loving…I was enchanted. This venture is in honor and memory of my youngest daughter,Alana,then age 17 who was killed in an accident 11/28/2003.
I think the name of the island should be Angel’s Rest.

Islands in Lake Huron
I live on a larger island with other people, the land is farmland, with old barnd dating back to the late 1800’s. Most of the farmers raise crops, but some have cows or sheep. The smaller private islands are usually a solid limestone rock, about 4 feet of dirt on top, with a cedar trees and maybe a sandy shore. Here on the island where I live, there are a couple of internal lakes, and in those lakes, there are small islands… so you could live on an island, in lake, in a larger island, in a larger lake. All of the lakes here freeze solid in the winter, even Lake Huron ices over in about 2 weeks in November. Break up (when the ice melts) usually occurs within about 2 weeks in April. People on private islands travel by snowmobile during the winter, except for the time they are stuck during ice over and ice break up. During the summer they travel by boat. Most have solar energy and pump their own water out of the lake. I recommend this website when first starting your search for an island. http://www.privateislandsonline.com/

Wow…you have alot more harsh weather/survival to contend with ! My main work will be health services in my island community..cordinating (screening, transport…metworking and getting the services needed). I doubt I could do this alone in harsh weather at my seasoned stage in life…Wow..you have alot of challenges. Many of the local population (there since ??? as long as history)) are struggling to keep their islands as speculators are realy pushing to take over and make the entire area a milionaires retreat. THis is NOT GOOD.
I found my island through a strange search.privately. The privateislands site…..well..I could not afford that ever !!
What sort of health and emergency services do you have in your area ?
My island is tiny…the house and cottage are on just an acre ! Just my size to care for..so I am very happy !
I would like to network with others like yourself living in such commnities.
I would be interested in visiting your island community…..epecially in winter ! I am interested in permaculture..and islands are the perfect example.

Suzi…anything is possible. Actually did not have this particular island in mind nor an “island”. Just a sense of tranquility…peace…a retreat for healing and a dream to share. It started with tragedy…and my getting involved with others who were in the same “leaky boat sinking”. We all felt like we were out of place in the world and that our hearts forever broken…we each have lost a child sudddely and traumatically. So..I put the dream out there to the universe with intention that whatever I found would be for the good of all in some way. (not just for me). Now…the island came to me…and many things are happening because of this. For me personally…the little island is a place I can go and help people in honor of my daughter. Start a health service project for people in this community of many small islands who can’t afford even the cost of a boat ride to shore and services And…a haven for anyone needing to retreat to heal.
I don’t think you have to experience tragedy and the horror of grief for dreams to be so strong. Just honest willingness that what you dream of or intend is not just for you alone.
Once someone close to me (at the time) became very upset…and yelled at me..”You always gets what you dream of !!”..well..that was not quite true. I just had good intentions…and wanted to be in service…and somehow…projects became reality. It took work..and perserverance …and humility. It was not ME…..never just me alone.
Have always had (since age 3 when I can remember) a strong connection to something so much more than what we see “here”. More to our purpose than the hype..the world we see,touch,experience .

I had such a de ja vous whilst reading your reply its spooked me for the first time in my life although this is quite normal for me I get those lots of times its almost as if thats me talking we think and have experienced so much alike.
