Quit playing video games

Worth doing!

it opens up some much time for other things  — 6 months ago

I quit playing computer games about two months ago! I feel like console games are not an issue since I don’t own one of this generation. The difference in me before I quit and after I quit is that I’ve been able to get out more and experience real life in a much greater amount. My friend still plays a lot, and he is not very likely to get out of his room due to world of warcraft, even if it’s to help me go pick up my car in the shop. I really hope he sees the light some day, because he’s missing out on so many things!
Since I quit, I’ve increased the amount of time I read, which I thoroughly enjoy. I’ve learned to dance and ripstik a little better. I’ve also gotten a little better at adobe photoshop. I feel like I can socialize a little better, too. I will admit that real life can be harder to jump right into! It takes effort that the “instant gratification of video games” simply did not require. But it is ultimately more fulfilling, and I’m much happier!
The day I quit, I was playing a game that I didn’t like. It was so boring and not fun that I felt like I had wasted my time. I decided to try to fill the void of that with playing my favorite game. But I no longer had fun playing that either, and I wondered how much time I had wasted over my life playing a game. It actually pissed me off that I had spent so much time playing! So that anger got me a good few days of no playing without any effort. By the time I started feeling withdrawals, I had already lasted long enough that I could deal with them! It is definitely possible to quit because if I can do it after playing for 17 years, anyone can!
