Atomboy worships the drone...

eliminate the words "I'm Sorry" unless I really really mean it. (read all 2 entries…)
Hmmm..... 21 months ago

...I find that I talk a lot less these days anyway what with all the travelling I have to do. The density of people is lower here so there’s less jostling, bumping and swerving that there was in London. I am more conscious of when I say “Sorry” now, but it does feel kind of hot-wired into my English/British brain. I am cutting down though, so it’s a half thumbs up for this goal.

Comments:

Cal is looking forward with joy and apprehension.

I was impressed by the politeness of the English

when I was there years ago. Where I lived at the time, California, people where more likely to cuss you out than apologize if there was any conflict. Be careful what you ask for.

I lived in East London....

before moving out to the countryside; there were often arguments on a Californian level there – I saw one guy attack another with a hammer and another one chase somebody and attack them with a baseball bat for “disrespecting” their space or whatever. So you’re right – perhaps a li’l politeness goes a long way! I think the notion of deference and politeness is fading fast in the English/British psyche in favour of a “I want it now” approach which regards other people as obstacles to be eliminated as fast as possible.

For me personally, it’s more about not caving in every time I’m in conflict, and actually holding my ground when required.

Atomboy has gotten 3 cheers on this entry.
