I recall that my children, when small, chewed on all their books, or used them as building blocks, or stepping stones, or projectiles of one sort or another. Keep at the reading, frustrations aside. You will be surprised at the amazing effect the practice of reading will have on him, even though he doesn’t realize it now.
I’m not sure whether you do this, but theatrics, like gestures and voices, go a long way with the book-eaters! :)
Give him a biscuit while you read to him, though maybe the colorful book will still look yummier to him.
