cultivate self-discipline
[43tings] choosing 'focus' over 'self-discipline' 21 months ago

i think at this point in my life cultivating ‘self-discipline’ isn’t working for me. i’ve decided to switch over to the goal of cultivating focus, which feels more ‘right’ for me.

i believe it is the wording, and/or connotations. ‘self-discipline’ makes me think of some level of ‘force’ or ‘control’. i seem to be associating some element of negativity or aggression with these words, so that i’m feeling resistant and reluctant.

‘focus’ on the other hand, feels more ‘zen-like’, calm, relatively gentle in comparison. seeking out ‘focus’ feels inviting, motivating and inspiring right now.

Remarkable!

This may be one of the most remarkable blogs I have come across in a long time! It is so wise, so inspiring, so constructive, so insightful!

I have struggled with discipline all of my life. The lack of it has severely hampered the progress of my life! I could have been further, much much further along in many ways if only I had it! I have known the problem all along; by God, I identified it many many years ago, but somehow, the idea of applying ‘self-discipline’ has only resonated strange energy within me. Focus is such a better way of going about the whole deal. As you said, it is indeed inviting, motivating, and inspiring!

God bless you for writing this blog!
