“Ruby In A Nutshell”. Hey, it’s a start. I needed something geeky to read over dinner.

good book, but ...
it’s a bit outdated. The good news is that you can get up to date quickly online with sites like www.ruby-doc.org or Chris Pine’s excellent Learn to Program with Ruby (coming soon to a bookstore near you!)
Two other things you should do are get on the ruby-talk mailing list and join your local ruby brigade.
How’s it working out for you?
I have really only glanced at it since I purchased it, and since I moved, I haven’t finished unpacking all the books. Soon, though! :)
Another option is to get the PDF version of Programming Ruby 2nd Edition. It’s up-to-date, and doesn’t require as much unpacking.
On the other hand, it absolutely sucks for bathroom reading.
