The last submission wasn’t accepted.

Today I am sending off six submissions to the annual anthology published by my university. I had poems published with them in 2005 and 2006. None of the pieces I sent feel expecially strong to me, but I figured it was worth a shot. I have until about April 11th to come up with anything else under 2000 words I’d like to send off to them.

Comments:

Keep marching.

This is kind of a comment on this whole goal…it sounds like you’re doing it, and that’s awesome. A rejection slip is a badge of honor, I think…not so much so, maybe, as an acceptance, but it’s still not a small thing. I need to do this more, myself, and it’s kind of inspiring reading the experiences of someone who’s doing it. Keep doing it. Stuff will hit, and stuff will find a home, eventually.

A colleague of mine in my graduate program has a policy which I think is kind of charming…every time he receives a rejection slip, he brings donuts to the next meeting of his writing workshop, as an only semi-ironic celebration. it’s sort of a lovely ritual, I think. I don’t know why, but reading your experiences of this goal made me think of it, and I thought I’d pass it along.

Anyway, cheers. And good luck with it.

Cheers,
Dan

What a great idea!

I love it. I think I’m going to have to find a way to adapt that.

I guess I’ve been in rather a holding pattern with this at the moment. My honours paper is kicking off and taking up a lot of attention, plus I’m still waiting to hear back about this submission. When I get the rejection notice, I’ll definitely send off something else. When I get the acceptance notice, I’ll definitely send off something else :D

I was thinking...

about creating a new goal about celebrating special days. I was wondering if you’d mind me quoting this little story?
