We’re committed – the boat is bought, she’s 75% refitted… and now we’re trying to save the $$ we need to leave. This is definitely the frustrating part. We both want to go – NOW – but we need the money in the kitty… anyone else out there in that place?

goodonya
your boat looks gorgeous…i can’t wait to do the same as you. i have just finished my sailing lessons and me & my husband are just going to buy a sailing dinghy to start with then really get a feel for sailing then get a bigger boat. do you have lots of sailing experience?
A fair amount
Frankie and I both grew up sailing a lot – my grandparents and my parents both “lived the dream” – sold everything and took off on their boats – my grandparents did it in the 1970s and my parents in 1992 – so it’s our turn now…
Good idea, taking sailing lessons – there’s a lot of things you can learn a whole lot faster from an instructor than you can by trial and error. If you can, get a daysailer – something in the 16-20 foot range – because sailing it will have more in common with “big boat” sailing than sailing a Sunfish will – although I love sailing Sunfishes! ;)
Can we come see you in Australia? Frankie has been there, not me.
thanks!
Yes I’ve learned heaps from the instructors, they are excellent. That is so great with you following in the footsteps of your parents and grandparents! When are you thinking of taking off? We live in Western Australia, so you are welcome to come and visit. We are planning to sail in March 2007 but moving to Queensland Australia first in December 2006. My name is Jenny by the way! :)
sailing
I agree with seamuffins comments re trailer sailors. There are some fantasdtic places to sail in QLD and if you are based in Brisbane you have the whole of Moreton Bay which is huge & stunning sailing plus dolphins, fish, turtles, dugong and its protected by the islands. Small trailor sailors arent expensive 2nd hand and you can stay away a weekend or more very easily whereas a dinghy gets pretty tiring after a couple of hours
Get er done!
I just just found 43 things and this was the first thing i searched for, cuz it’s the only thing i want to do. Just felt like i needed to drop a line and say congrats. Out of all the others that want to “sail around the world”, you mean it. Best of luck and hopefully i’ll see you on the high sea.
Workin'
Just working and working – we need $$ to continue with the refit, and it’s hard scraping it together sometimes. I’m hoping to go down to the Muffin tomorrow to start roughing in the interior… carpentry is always a little scary to me, though!
I know how you feel
Although I think I have the money – its the time to do the refit. I still need to keep the cash flow for the shoreside life happening so I can tear up the boat and still have a place to sleep. I’m working towards launch in 3 years. I have one 5 year old girl + spouse.
Lots to do (just posted my todo list). I’d be willing to pay to have a bunch of this stuff done – but I’m not having any luck finding people who will do it within a reasonable time period for sensible prices. So I’ll be struggling to fit it in this summer.
