get out of debt (read all 8 entries…)
Almost there!

This year my husband and I found ourselves in over $14,000 in credit card debt! Yeah that’s a lot! And what do we have to show for it? NOTHING! I look around at all the expensive nice things I have and none of them were purchased on credit…so how did we get into this much debt? Because we are lazy and instead of spending cash on things we want, we would just put it on the credit card to worry about it later, and then we still have cash in our pocket. How stupid were we? Well all of this has changed. In January we sat down and figured out how much we are paying towards our debt, and how much we could be paying and we realized that it was time to get it under control. We have good credit so we were able to get a personal loan to consolidate everything into one bill. We took out the loan for 3 years, but so far we have already paid down 1/3 of the loan and we have nocked off a whole year of payments. I am so proud of ourselves already! I decided to put this on my list of goals so that I don’t lose sight of the end result that we hope to achieve which is get out of credit card debt for good!

Great work.

I probably would not have done the debt consolidation loan, but that is personal opinion. That’s why they call it personal finance.

You do sound like you are on the right track with paying off a third of it already. Well done!

Keep working hard at it and you will have it paid off in no time.

May God Bless You Always Mrs. Babar Walter....

Dearest Mrs. Babar Walter,

Having just read one of your entries, my eyes are filled with tears of abundant love. Your loving gift transfered to a couple working to get out of debt was incredibly thoughtful. An earthly angel you truly are.
My husband and I have a special needs child. She is 12 years old, and was flown out flight for life last January, where she was in isolated pedactric ICU for five days in critical condition. By the grace of God her life was spared, and we were able to bring her home. There arent any guarentees that we wont end up there again, praying again that God will grant her more time, but for now we count our blessings big that she is still with us.
As a result of the incident, our health insurance jumped in price from $600 per month to $900 a month. We have had to make a decision wether to keep our home, with $1,000 per month payment(no utilities included), or keep our life insurance. Life insurance of course was top priorty. THe downfall is right now our home isnt yet in the foreclosure process, but it is safe for our daughter to live in without fear of a repeat health backset. Finding a rental home will be a challenge that is safe for her, and that we are terrified about. One day at a time, one prayer at a time, and God shall see us through.
A few months ago I took out a personal consolidation loan for a little over $9,000. It was set up on a 54 or 56 month payment plan. Sweet Lela(my daughter will be close to graduating when it is paid off). Will be a blessing to have it paid off down the road, but a heart tugging thought that our baby girl will be nearing time to leave the nest. If ever you feel the calling to reach out further to adopt another daughter in heart, and a granddaughter as well.....please please please let me know. With tears in my eyes and a lump in my throatI feel shameful even shameful even mentioning that; however it disipates with the thought of my daughter's livelyhood where fear is concerned finding a different home that would hopefully be safe for her. My email address is poemsandkisses@hotmail.com. Should you decide to email me, please put something in the subject line about being Mrs. Babar Walterthe earthly angel, so I wont just delete it, unaware of who you might be.
May God bless you Always and Abundantly at that!!! Happy holidays to you. Heaven knows you are truly deserving of anything and everything especially blessed.

Angel Blessings Always,
Diane(DiamondDove_130)

Well Done

Hi NMitchell4882 (Snappy Title).

I was in a similar amount of debt a few years ago and like you I ‘consolidated’ my loans etc, which may not have been the best option, but given the limited amount I knew about financial planning at the time it was probably the best I could do.

A work colleague lent me a book called ‘Your Money or Your Life’ by Alvin Hall who is an American financial ‘Guru’ that ran a very accessible series on BBC.

Anyway I really recommend the book – it really helped me to penny pinch and in 14 months I actually paid off 16,000 euro.

I was so happy I actually left the job I no longer enjoyed and gave myself some time out for a while…

Anyway – I really recommend the book and Alvin is quite a ‘character’.

Hope this helps and well done on addressing the problem!

debt

we owed 25000 about seven years ago and drew up a “consumer proposal” with a reputable firm of accountants. We paid a set ammount every month and many of the firms we owed money to accepted the accountants’ proposal to be paid off without interest payments. We finally paid it all off and have just one credit card now and no store cards. Good luck.

Good going! Keep it up.

How inspiring that you saw the problem and you went for it—working out a plan to fix it. Our culture makes debt too easy and saving very hard in terms of rewards!

good, good

well, it’s really good – pay debts and never be into it when it’s not really necessary.

Cheers your progress and keep going!

hi

You did it!

It sure feels good to get a handle on it, like a big weight lifted off of your daily thoughts…
same thing here with about 25,000 in debt after a divorce and just struggling to keep the house for myself and my kids to stay in….
I finally did a refi and took care of all of it,,, Didn’t get a credit card for about 4 years, now I have one and am just slowly building the credit back up and it feels good…
If I really need to buy a major purchase I save my money and pay cash, I do have a stash of cash in savings for any type of emergency, because with a family you never know what can happen…
It’s amazing how many things you really don’t need to buy,, who cares what others have, it’s really about being happy with yourself and treating others good for who they are.. It all comes back to you…
Good luck….

Good Comment!

Not only is it GREAT to hear you are appropriately taking care of yourself and your kids (CHEERS!), but your comment that “it’s amazing how many things you really don’t need to buy…” is a HUGE thing to realize. Thank you for your comment, and CONGRATS on your accomplishments!
