I decided against pursuing this some time ago, but forgot to remove it. From what I’ve read it’s rare that a person can learn to touch-type in more than one layout. If you learn Dvorak, you’re likely to unlearn Qwerty, or have difficulty with it. I would still want to touch-type on other peoples’ computers and public computers, so I’m not going to bother. Also, the difficulty involved in changing some keyboards (laptops, the new Apple keyboards, etc.) to the Dvorak layout doesn’t seem worth it.

Well you don’t really need to change your keyboard. Qwerty is becoming slower for me, but I’m currently sticking to it in typing Chinese and Japanese—the speed is not that terrible.
All you need is time and training, I say. The problem is that when you can do Qwerty you are not willing to train hard any more. But don’t give up on it yet!
