a few houses down from us. he does those pots of fruit for people like me who are too lazy to prepare it themselves. so i’ve been buying myself a pot in the morning to bring to work, thinking i’m being a healthy hero. but it’s an environmental catastrophe: high-mile mango and pineapple and strawberries in a disposable plastic pot with a disposable plastic fork. i really must practise my mango-dissection skills. i only ever end up with a heap of orange goo smelling like soap (plus bits in my hair, on the floor, all the way up the cupboards, etc.). or i’ll have to buy proper, whole fruits, like people did in the old days. maybe he stocks pears that are not from the usa or argentina (are there no pear trees left in germany? do the german pears get sent to china or something?)
